Recovery Conversations

Intake Form

What is a recovery conversation?

A Recovery Conversation is an important step on the journey to freedom. It is often the first of many, creating a moment of trust that can open the door to real change.

Not every Recovery Conversation leads immediately to a recovery program, but each one matters. Every conversation plants a seed of hope and reminds our guests that they are seen, valued, and capable of transformation.

Types of Recovery Conversations:

Before any intake or referral, we take time to talk. Sometimes, people just need information about what we offer or space to be heard.
That first moment of connection is often where hope begins.

An individual may or may not share the real reason behind the conversation. Our job is to discern that within the first interaction, asking the Holy Spirit for wisdom and listening closely for truth.

  • Trying to obtain shelter/housing

  • Consequence Avoidance

  • Information Gathering

  • Genuine Interest

We do not have access to housing

If someone wants housing, they can call 211 and get connected with housing resources. We provide pathways out of homelessness by way of addiction recovery only.
If the person you are speaking with wants housing, this is a good chance to discuss full life transformation. We are not only about sobriety, but getting to the root of the addiction and healing it.

We do not help people who are incarcerated unless we have a prior relationship with them

We have learned over the years that someone who wants to avoid consequences is not committed to the recovery pathway and does not make a good candidate for sponsorship.

Sometimes a person isn’t quite ready, but they want information for when they are ready

In this stage, having a conversation before doing an intake is important. There may not yet be a need for intake, only a chance to share what we offer and build connection. Offering hope in that first interaction can change everything. We never know when the words we speak will be planted in someone’s heart and grow into the courage that leads them to freedom.

Whether or not they’re ready for intake, speak life and hope. Pray with them if they’re open. Let them know we’ll walk with them when they’re ready.

Genuine Interest

When someone expresses a desire for change and connects with what we have to offer, that’s the time to do an intake. This is where their pathway to recovery begins, and we get to walk alongside them as they take their first real step toward freedom.

Helpful Tips for Recovery Conversations

  • All information is confidential.
Anything a guest shares during a conversation or intake must be treated with care and respect. We protect the privacy and dignity of every person who comes to us for help. What is shared in a Recovery Conversation stays within the Recovery Team.

    • Do not discuss a guest in front of anyone outside the Recovery Team.
Protect their story, their trust, and their dignity.

  • Placement is not decided in the first conversation.
Each person’s next step is prayerfully determined through ongoing check-in calls and team discernment, not during the initial meeting.

  • If someone wants to enter recovery right away, explain our check-in process.
Share that the process usually takes 3 or more days if detox is not needed, and 5 or more days if detox is required.

  • If someone does not have a phone, reassure them.
Let them know they’ll find a way to call daily and remind them that many people borrow a phone each day, or use a payphone (located at every trolley station) just to check in.

  • We do not complete intakes on behalf of someone else.
You can give information to a friend or family member, but the process cannot begin until the individual personally expresses interest in recovery.

  • We walk with each person through their entire journey.
Our team stays connected through visits, phone calls, celebrations, and ongoing support. Recovery is not just a placement, it’s a relationship. Once they are out of blackout and ready, we invite them to join our team and extend the same hope that was once extended to them.

  • We continue to support graduates of long-term recovery.
Upon successful completion of a program, We See You may sponsor up to two months of sober living rent to help them continue walking in freedom and stability.
