Volunteering At
Our Dinner Parties

What does a typical dinner party look like?

Volunteers begin to arrive around 3:00pm to set up. (Set up includes tables, chairs, the coffee station, roll up cutlery, organize donations (clothes/hygiene supplies) etc.)

Upon arrival, volunteers sign in on the iPad in our meeting room. They then get a volunteer lanyard or purchase a We See You Shirt (available for purchase on Tuesday nights) so that we know & our guests know who is volunteering that evening. We have a team meeting at 4:45, which explains each job, and any announcements we have that week.

The gate opens at 5pm to guests, who are greeted with live music, beverages served table-side, appetizers, hygiene supplies, and our gourmet coffee bar.

At 5:15pm the director says a prayer for the meal & the food is served.

15-20 people prepare plates, while the rest of the Food Service Team serves the food to their assigned section (just like at a restaurant).

The Clothing Team visits tables 'taking orders' if guests are in need of clothing. If we have the item, we bring it to them. This is personal shopping at its finest!

Throughout the dinner, individual birthdays are announced on the microphone, celebrated with the band singing “Happy Birthday”, a card signed by the team, and a gift!

After everyone has been served, a cart overflowing with lavish dessert plates is pushed around so guests are able to select a plate full of sweet treats.

The Raffle Show starts at 6pm, and signifies the end of the dinner party.

Breakdown & cleanup start around 6:30pm.

Volunteer Tips

  • After their job is completed, volunteers are invited to sit at the table with our guests. It is around the table that relationships are forged. It is the relationships built that makes all of the difference in a person’s life.

  • Kids are welcome and are invited to serve alongside you.

  • Once you are approved as a volunteer, you are free to come and go as your schedule permits. Come anytime 3-6:30pm. There is always a job to do.

  • All volunteers must sign our General Release & Waiver.

  • Remember to smile! Sometimes we get so invested in doing a great job that we forget to have fun.

  • Merch is available for purchase every Tuesday! All of the money raised from merch sales goes back into supporting those who we are walking alongside of in recovery.

  • We love when you tag us on Instagram! If you take any videos, please tag us, @weseeyousandiego.

  • Remember to pause all service + conversations when you hear someone on the microphone. Each week we give an invitation for our guests to leave the streets and if service + conversations aren’t paused, they might miss their opportunity.

  • If you see something concerning while volunteering, please seek out Sarah Wagner, Laura Chez, Aaron Barrett or Kevin Chez.

  • If it is your first time volunteering and you don’t know where to start, find Sarah Wagner.

  • If you are bringing donations with you, you can place them into the donation bin- Jill can give you a receipt.

  • If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Sarah Wagner!
